What is this 'indie' we've heard so much about?

Indie means independent / independence and has been around for quite some time! It's a shock to me how some people walk around saying their indie dressed in their labelled clothes!

Independence in the industry has been around for quite some time. Examples of this can be seen in music , videogaming and artistic communities, so why has it become a mainstream trend?




Indie media is a statement , it shows that you don't need money to make a work of art, (but money does help) what you do need is passion and commitment. In the music industry you often hear about artists such as noah and the whale and Florence and the machine. Their work doesn't lack quality , all it does lack is an established label! Gaming produced in an independent style appears to have the potential to become cult classics with examples of Heavy Rain by quantum dream and Minecraft by MojangAB.
